PETER VARSICS

Film Director, Creative Director and Photographer with over 12 years of international work experience in branding, creative storytelling, filmmaking and advertising.

After seeing King Kong at the age of 3 he instantly knew what he wanted to become: an archeologist. Today he’s not digging out bones but making films instead.

Peter was drawn to dinosaurs as a kid because they presented the proof that magic and wonders do exist. Through the magic of movie-making he fell in love with the moving picture itself. This love grew into craft and skill, making him the creative force behind innovative, cutting edge and award-winning TV Promos and Commercials for Brands like Cinemax, HBO, HBO Europe and WarnerMedia.

His kinetic and stylishly audiovisual work often involves character-driven, human stories told with a bold cinematic approach, whether it’s a dramatic, thrilling narrative promo, an action driven car film, a witty brand commercial or a pharmaceutical ad. For him it all comes down to the idea, the script – finding the right story and the right way to tell it.

Born in Germany and raised in Hungary, early on in his career Peter has been included in the PromaxBDA Rocket Award Shortlist, being among the best young creatives in tv promotion for his fresh approach in producing, editing and directing promos for HBO Europe. Since then his work has garnered recognition across the world, winning numerous awards at Promax (Europe Awards and Global Excellence), Clio Entertainment, Golden Trailer Awards and many local competitions.

While working as a Creative Director he pursued his longtime passion for photography. Peter’s background and love for the moving picture, filmmaking, art direction have greatly influenced his photographic style, in which he’s making cinematic captures of everyday life, street scenes or filmic portraits and turns them into moments out of a movie or a dream. In the past year he did his first editorial and shortly after his first campaigns followed, recently shooting elements for the Key Art and Character Arts of a major international series, all on film.

His affection and need for telling human stories is also present outside of the commercial world: after a few narrative short films, music videos, documentaries and working as 2nd unit / action / promo director on several HBO series across Europe (like ‘Shadows’ (Umbre), ‘The Pack’ (Wataha), ‘Golden Life’, ‘Success’ (Uspjeh), etc.), he finally made his break into making feature-length movies. He recently finished his debut feature, a romantic-dramedy titled ’Perfect As You Are’, it was successfully released in Summer 2021, opened to excellent reviews and earned him the award for Best First-Time Director at the Hungarian Film Festival.

He’s currently living in Budapest, working on his upcoming feature film project(s) and international commercial campaigns while further pursuing his longtime passion for photography on film.
